Scottish rock band Big Country was formed in 1981 by guitarists Stuart Adamson and Bruce Watson. Their virtuoso guitar playing soon attracted international attention. In 1983 Big Country scored their first top 10 hit with Fields of Fire, from their debut album The Crossing, which was nominated for a Grammy Award the same year. Other well-known songs on this album are In A Big Country, and Chance.
Through the years Big Country have established a reputation as one of the best live bands around. Mick Jagger called them "One of the best opening bands we have had!". In 2000 they embarked on a farewell tour and played what turned out to be their last gig in Kuala Lumpur in October that year. In 2001 Stuart Adamson sadly committed suicide. The band reunited in 2007 for a 25 year reunion album plus UK tour, disbanded again in September 2008 and resumed the thread again in 2010 with singer/guitarist Mike Peters (The Alarm) as their new front man and Jamie Watson, Bruce's son, added to the line-up. In 2011 the band released a new single, Another Country, followed in April 2013 by their latest album to date, The Journey. With a career spanning more than thirty years there are no sings of wear: the band is still very much 'alive and kicking'!
