Bjørn Riis (Airbag) is considered one of the leading voices in Norwegian progressive rock. As a songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer, he creates layered, atmospheric music where melody and emotion take center stage. Since his solo debut Lullabies in a Car Crash (2014), he has been building a strong body of work in which prog merges with influences from Pink Floyd, Porcupine Tree, electronics, and film music. His distinctive guitar playing and introspective lyrics give his work an intense and immersive character. With Fimbulvinter (2025), many consider him to have delivered his strongest album yet.
His solo career has been developing alongside his work as founder and principal composer of Airbag. In both paths, Riis himself is the central creative force: responsible for most of the songwriting, the musical direction, and the distinctive sound. While he explores an increasingly personal and adventurous path under his own name, he has built a strong international reputation with Airbag, with critically acclaimed albums such as The Century of the Self (2024) and performances at major festivals and stages alongside artists like Marillion, Yes, and Riverside.
