Knight of the Guitar will get a sequel! Five top-notch guitarists have joined forces: Jan Akkerman, Leendert Haaksma, Erwin Nijhoff, John Hayes and Joep Pelt. They are all masters of their own genre, but also move across all musical boundaries. These guitar heroes are supported by Jan Akkerman’s backing band including vocalist Laurie Akkerman.
John Hayes
Guitarist John Hayes has been involved with Mother's Finest since 1990. The band scored a number of worldwide hits, including Baby Love. As a member of MF, John Hayes has taken new alternative paths to make the funk more accessible and, above all, fatter. Hayes also played with Sting, Sheryl Crow, The Beastie Boys and Herman Brood and His Wild Romance.
Leendert Haaksma
Leendert Haaksma is known as the guitarist of Anouk, Anastacia, Candy Dulfer, Hans Dulfer, Tower of Power, Marcus Miller and Trijntje Oosterhuis. He is also part of the backing band of The Voice of Holland. Haaksma teaches at the Rotterdam School of Music and has often ended up in the top 10 of the Netherlands' Best Guitarist, voted by the readers of Guitarist magazine.
Erwin Nyhoff
In the 1990s, Erwin is part of the successful band The Prodigal Sons, which played as support act for Pearl Jam and Alanis Morisette. He later revitalized his career by participating in The Voice of Holland and Nyhoff is now traveling to all major stages and festivals again.
Joe Pelt
Joep Pelt is a guitar globetrotter. Over the years, Joep has entered into numerous musical collaborations with artists from all sorts of genres. His eclectic guitar playing serves as a lubricant between different musical worlds. Joep has played at the North Sea Jazz Festival five times and has performed at numerous renowned venues and festivals in the Netherlands and abroad.
Jan Akkerman
Finally, Nestor Jan Akkerman does not need too much introduction: his rich career makes him a living monument of the Dutch rock and pop scene. Of course, Jan is still the only Dutchman who was voted 'World Best Guitarist'.
