In their most successful line-up — Gillan, Glover, Lord, Blackmore and Paice — Deep Purple created an iconic double album. It was recorded during three sold-out concerts in Osaka and Tokyo. Produced by Martin Birch, the album was recorded using the Rolling Stones Recording Mobile Studio and released in 1972. Highway Star, Child in Time, Smoke on the Water, The Mule, Strange Kind of Woman, Lazy and Space Truckin’ were all featured on the original release. In 1998, the album was remastered and expanded with three additional tracks, also recorded live in Japan: Black Night, Speed King and Lucille. Made in Japan played a major role in Deep Purple’s worldwide popularity and helped establish the legendary status the band continues to enjoy to this day.

Made in Purple features Bert Verschueren on guitar, Pieter-Jan Paepe on vocals, Koen Herfst on drums, Cedric Haeck on bass and Pieter van Malderen on keyboards. Driven by passion, enthusiasm and an incurable seventies hard rock spirit, these musicians return to the roots of the genre. Nostalgia, the technical challenge of performing the entire album and, of course, the sheer joy of playing live are the driving forces behind this ambitious project.
