Simon Phillips - Protocol II

Simon Phillips is one of the best-known and most respected drummers in the world, well-versed in every musical genre imaginable. He is also an old friend of The Boerderij: earlier he made an appearance together with jazz pianist Hiromi, and with Philippe Saisse and Pino Palladino (PSP). Tonight he will be backed by Andy Timmons (guitar), Steve Weingart (keyboards), and Ernest Tibbs (bass).
Describing Simon's career in a few sentences is no mean task and inevitably involves some serious namedropping. Here we go: apart from being one of the most sought-after studio drummers in England (by the likes of Dana Gillespie, Albert Hammond, Phil Manzanera, Duncan Browne), he also displayed his inimitable and innovative drumming playing with Jeff Beck. And when The Who started touring again in 1989, he replaced Keith Moon. Mike Oldfield, Russ Ballard, David Gilmour, Big Country, Mick Jagger, Peter Gabriel, Joe Satriani, and ...... they all worked with Simon. And of course there is Toto, where Simon filled in for Jeff Porcaro in 1992 after Porcaro sadly passed away in 1986, and hasn't missed a tour since. Could go on, but space limitations don't allow.... suffice it to say that his clinics and shows are an absolute must for every drummer! Guitarist Andy Timmons has played in bands such Danger Danger and Pawn Kings. But he also boasts an impressive solo career, sold over a million albums word-wide, and worked with Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Mike Stern, Ted Nugent, and Olivia Newton-John, to name only a few. Keyboardist Steve Weingart is a big name in the jazz and funk scene. He has played with Steve Lukather, Chaka Khan, and Robben Ford, among others. And most jazz lovers will instantly recognise the name Ernest Tibbs, for instance as the bassist in jazz guitarist Allan Holdsworth's band.
