Simon is known from Toto, where he was a member for over 20 years, but he also worked on projects with Steve Lukather, Michael Schenker and Derek Sherinian, among others. Since 2013, Simon has focused on his own compositions with the Protocol series, with number 5 as the most recent release. The music on Protocol V combines virtuosity with a wide range of styles, with jazz-rock as the central theme. Complex rhythms, tight arrangements and a modern approach to fusion with melodic hooks and technical precision. The songs on the album range from energetic up-tempo tracks to atmospheric, quiet pieces, with lots of variation in style and emotion.
