The Tangent

prog with metal, jazz, klassiek, funk, and disco influences

The Tangent

The Tangent is an English progressive rock band that has been active for nearly a quarter of a century. With their fourteenth studio album, released this year, they continue to be remarkably productive.

The band is known for its long, epic compositions and a wide range of influences both within and outside the prog genre, including metal, jazz, classical, funk, and even dance and disco. This results in a distinctive yet clearly progressive sound. The lyrics are substantive and deeply rooted in reality—“no orcs and hobbits” has been a guiding principle since the beginning.

The Tangent believes progressive music belongs in the present as much as it did in the 1970s. Since its formation in 2002, the band has seen several lineup changes, but the current configuration is firmly established. The Tangent now consists of Andy Tillison (keys and vocals), Luke Machin (guitar), Steve Roberts (drums), and John Jowitt (bass). On record, Theo Travis also contributes saxophone and flute; during live performances, his parts are split, with Rob Groucutt handling additional keyboards.

Support: Molestone
The five-piece Frisian band Molstone is a fresh, new name in Dutch prog rock. Their sound is powerful and dynamic, blending heavy rock elements with orchestral textures. In February, Molstone released their debut album Master of Illusion, which they perform with a tight and energetic live presence.
